Experience the rich and savory flavors of traditional Chinese BBQ pork, known as Char Siu. This dish features tender pork marinated in a sweet and tangy sauce, then roasted to perfection. Perfect for a family dinner or a special gathering.

  • Pork:

  1. Gather all the necessary ingredients.
  2. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine soy sauce, honey, ketchup, brown sugar, rice wine, hoisin sauce, red bean curd, and five-spice powder. Stir continuously until the mixture is slightly warmed and well-blended, approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. While the marinade is warming, slice each pork tenderloin lengthwise into strips that are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick. Place these pork strips into a large resealable plastic bag.
  4. Pour the prepared marinade into the bag with the pork. Remove as much air as possible from the bag, seal it tightly, and turn the bag several times to ensure the pork is thoroughly coated. Refrigerate and let marinate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  5. When ready to cook, preheat a charcoal grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grill grate.
  6. Take the pork out of the marinade, allowing any excess liquid to drip off. Reserve the remaining marinade for basting.
  7. Arrange the hot coals into two equal piles on opposite sides of the charcoal grate. Place a small container of water on the grate. Position the pork strips in the center of the grate for indirect grilling.
  8. Cook the pork using indirect heat, turning the strips regularly and basting with the reserved marinade as needed. Grill until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the pork reads at least 145°F (63°C), which should take about 30 minutes or longer.
  9. Serve the grilled pork hot and enjoy!

  • – For a more intense flavor, marinate the pork overnight.
    – Red food coloring is optional but gives the pork its signature red hue.
    – Serve with steamed rice and vegetables for a complete meal.
