This Savory Sausage and Apple Pastry Delight combines the rich flavors of sausage with the sweetness of apples, all encased in a golden, flaky pastry. Perfect for a cozy dinner or an impressive appetizer!

  1. Set your oven to preheat at 400°F (200°C). Prepare two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  2. Warm a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook, stirring frequently, for about 3 minutes. Incorporate the onion and continue cooking until the sausage is browned and crumbly, approximately 3 more minutes. Drain and discard any excess grease.
  3. Stir in 3/4 of the Cheddar cheese, the diced apples, and the cooked rice into the sausage mixture in the skillet. Beat one egg in a bowl and add it to the skillet. Mix thoroughly, then season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  4. Lay out one sheet of puff pastry on one of the prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle half of the remaining Cheddar cheese down the center of the pastry and top with half of the sausage mixture. Cut the sides of the pastry into strips and braid them over the filling, pinching the ends to seal. Repeat this process with the second sheet of puff pastry, the rest of the Cheddar cheese, and the remaining sausage mixture.
  5. Beat the remaining egg in a bowl and brush it over both pastry braids.
  6. Bake the pastries in the preheated oven until they are golden brown, which will take about 30 to 40 minutes.
